Istanbul Energy Expands Its Technology and R&D Network!

Istanbul Energy and the Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications (ODTÜ-GÜNAM) signed a cooperation protocol in the field of solar energy technologies.

Istanbul Energy Has Added Another One to Its Collaborations with Universities and R&D Institutions

Yüksel Yalçın, General Manager of Istanbul Energy, and Prof. Dr. Raşit Turan, Director of the Middle East Technical University Center for Solar Energy Research and Applications, signed a cooperation protocol to conduct technical and scientific studies in the field of the solar energy technologies at the ceremony held at Headquarters of Istanbul Enerji A.Ş. on Friday, April 8.

This R&D and Technology-Based Collaboration Supports the Vision of Istanbul Energy

Yüksel Yalçın, General Manager of Istanbul Enerji A.Ş., said; “With the 2015 Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal that came into force in Turkey in 2021, we have initiated the green transformation processes within the scope of renewable energy projects and in line with the mission of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality. We create projects by reinforcing the technological developments with the engineering experience of Istanbul Energy. In this direction, we have a desire to initiate the first R&D project, which will be implemented by the guiding information center ODTÜ-GÜNAM and Istanbul Energy with our R&D center in Yıldız Technical University Technopark within the shortest time. Today, this R&D and technology-based collaboration we have made here is also very valuable for the vision of Istanbul Energy.”.

Prof. Dr. Raşit Turan, Director of GÜNAM, said in his speech; “Across the world, there is an increasing interest in solar energy among renewable energy sources as a result of increased sensitivity to the problems posed by climate change. The R&D studies and innovations have also made a significant contribution to the transformation of solar energy into electricity and other types of energy. The projects that we will implement within the scope of our collaboration with Istanbul Energy will be realized within the framework of the integration of solar energy systems into buildings, urban living spaces, parks, and transportation systems. As ODTÜ – GÜNAM and Istanbul Energy, we are very glad to realize these projects that we will carry out in line with the net-zero carbon target of 2050.”.

Within the scope of Collaboration Between Istanbul Energy and ÖDTÜ – GÜNAM, the studies will be jointly carried out on the following subjects;

  • Photovoltaic systems;
  • Building facade applications, Floating SPP integration, clean energy applications in transportation systems,
  • Electric vehicle charging systems,
  • EU-Funded Projects,
  • Academic studies on renewable energy (publications, thesis research),
  • Events such as panels, symposiums, and workshops in the field of energy technologies.
