İstanbul Enerji, we continue to expand our SECAP – Sürdürülebilir Enerji ve İklim Eylem planı initiatives within local governments. Following our latest collaboration with Edirne Municipality, we signed a contract to prepare SECAP studies.
The SECAP introduction program, held at the Edirne Municipality Atatürk Cultural Center, was attended by academics, professional chamber representatives, members of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, neighborhood muhtars, and representatives from various institutions and organizations. During the program, Edirne Mayor Recep Gürkan and our General Manager Yüksel Yalçın signed a cooperation protocol within the scope of Sürdürülebilir Enerji ve İklim Eylem Planı . Through this collaboration, the green transformation process within Edirne Municipality’s energy and environmental programs officially commenced.
A One-Degree Temperature Increase Changes the World
In his speech, our General Manager Yüksel Yalçın provided information on the planned activities under the action plan, stating that they have been developing joint projects with Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, Edirne Mayor Recep Gürkan, and local governments in the region on energy and climate matters.
Highlighting the responsibility of local governments in SECAP , Yalçın said:
“One aspect of these efforts is the Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan. Since the 2000s, we have observed how a one-degree temperature increase, followed by another one-degree rise, changes the world. We all see how significant a one-degree increase really is.”
Edirne Municipality Climate Change and Zero Waste Director Savaş Çerkez also emphasized that climate change is one of the world’s most critical issues, stating, “Due to the potential dangers of climate change, every country is taking urgent measures and precautions at both national and local levels.”
Our Goal: Carbon Neutral
Edirne Mayor Gürkan underlined the importance of this process initiated with İstanbul Enerji , noting that from a future perspective, the action plan is more significant than infrastructure or asphalt works.
Gürkan stated: “Our goal is clear. Our goal is carbon neutrality… We plan to achieve it by 2050. Hopefully, we might reach it by 2040 or 2035. But if we do not reach carbon neutrality, our children and grandchildren will not live in a world like the one we experience. That is certain.”
Thanking İstanbul Enerji for supporting the energy management technical teams, Gürkan added: “Knowledge is crucial. Those who possess knowledge also possess the future. That’s why partnering with İstanbul Enerji, with its 60 years of experience, is very valuable to us.”
Under the collaboration between İstanbul Enerji and Edirne Municipality, clean energy initiatives will be carried out in line with the 2050 carbon-neutral target.
We are striving to implement energy investments and programs in line with sustainable, technological, and clean energy policies, primarily with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, as well as the public and private sectors.
