The Silivri Seymen Biomass Energy Generation Plant is located in the Silivri district of Istanbul Province, within the Seymen Sanitary Landfill and Waste Disposal Facility, where municipal solid waste from the European Side is disposed of. The plant generates electricity by converting the naturally occurring landfill gas within the sanitary landfill into energy, while contributing to environmental sustainability by preventing the uncontrolled release of methane gas—which has a high greenhouse effect—into the atmosphere.
Built on an area of approximately 60,000 square meters, the construction of the facility began in June 2018, and its initial provisional acceptance took place on September 4, 2020. Through gas engine investments driven by increasing landfill gas potential, the plant's installed capacity was gradually increased from 18 MW to 25 MW, then to 37 MW, and ultimately to 44 MW.
Having generated 1.3 million MWh of electricity since the start of its operations, the plant has reached a capacity sufficient to meet the annual electricity needs of all households across the Silivri, Çatalca, Şile, and Büyükçekmece districts. Furthermore, by achieving carbon emission reductions equivalent to removing 1,117,000 vehicles from traffic, it makes a significant contribution to Istanbul's sustainable energy targets.
We are striving to implement energy investments and programs in line with sustainable, technological, and clean energy policies, primarily with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, as well as the public and private sectors.
