İstanbul Enerji AŞ was established in 1962 under the name BEL-PET. The shares owned by Petrol Ofisi were transferred in 1992 to İDO and İSFALT, making the company entirely an Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) enterprise. In 2006, the company’s name was changed to “İstanbul Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi.” İstanbul Enerji is one of the subsidiaries of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.

With 62 years of experience, it is an enterprise that focuses on evaluating renewable energy sources, which are prominent today, and using environmentally friendly technologies. It has three main areas of activity: energy production and management, fuel management, and lighting project and implementation management. Within the scope of these activities, it carries out Solar Energy Systems (GES) projects, solar-powered (solar) lighting systems, energy efficiency consultancy, Biomass Power Plants (BES), Wind Power Plants (RES), Electric Vehicle Charging Stations, wholesale & retail fuel supply, and lighting projects for architectural areas & parks and gardens. It provides innovative and environmentally friendly solutions in energy, lighting, and fuel management to numerous organizations in both the public and private sectors.

Increasing the use of renewable energy sources and raising awareness about green cities and green industry is one of the areas for which it assumes responsibility. At the same time, Istanbul Enerji, which makes environmental management one of its core policies, has, as of June 2021, put into action the Climate Change Processes Management Office and is working toward making Istanbul a “Fair, Green, and Creative” city, in line with the goal of Istanbul becoming a “carbon-neutral” and “resilient city” by 2050. Istanbul Enerji employs nearly 400 personnel who are experts in the fields in which it operates.
