İstanbul Enerji Increased the Installed Capacity of the “Silivri – Seymen Biomass Power Plant” from 25 MW to 37 MW

With 37 MW, it is the “Biomass Power Plant with the Highest Installed Capacity in a Single Location in Turkey.

İstanbul Enerji AŞ’s Silivri Seymen Biomass Power Plant, which opened in September 2020 with an installed capacity of 17 MW, reached 25 MW with 18 gas engines as of 26 December 2020. In October 2021, this installed capacity was increased from 25 MW to 37 MW with 26 gas engines. İstanbul Enerji Silivri Seymen Plant, with 37 MW, is the biomass power plant with the highest installed capacity in a single location in Turkey. With an installed capacity of 37 MW, it will provide environmental benefits equivalent to meeting the annual electricity needs of approximately 190,000 households (760,000 people), reducing carbon equivalent to 37,000 trees, preventing the emission of methane gas equivalent to 1.45 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) in terms of greenhouse effect, and offsetting the carbon emissions produced by 940,000 vehicles. According to the production projections made during the feasibility phase, the plant is planned to reach 90 MW installed capacity between 2038–2041. Once it reaches 90 MW, the plant will be the world’s largest biomass energy project installed in a single location.

İstanbul Enerji continues its work to become a strong and reputable brand in the energy sector, developing new projects for energy production systems equipped with high-tech equipment and guided by an environmentally and nature-friendly energy production policy, with the sensitivity of “a cleaner, greener, and more livable Istanbul.”
