İstanbul Enerji has established the “Climate Change Processes Management Office” on April 22 to monitor future climate risks for our country and the world based on scientific research, better define its corporate responsibilities, and implement actionable plans.
The management office will also track the implementation areas under the energy category of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality’s climate change programs and will operate with a full-time engineering team supported by expert academic advisors. İstanbul Enerji recognizes the importance and urgency of the issues arising from climate change and, through the newly established Climate Change Processes Management Office, develops projects targeting these challenges.
World Environment Day, which emerged from the idea of highlighting environmental threats to natural life and beauty, is celebrated annually on April 22. The first World Environment Day held on April 22, 1970, attracted over 20 million participants, with numerous conferences and symposiums emphasizing environmental issues. This led to the introduction of the United States’ first Clean Air Act and Clean Water Acts. This year, more than one billion people worldwide are expected to participate in activities emphasizing the urgency of the climate crisis and the need for immediate action.
Since 1970, World Environment Day has been marked by major events such as the Paris Agreement. This year’s theme, announced to draw attention to the damage caused, is “Restore our Earth.”
Significant events related to World Environment Day include the “Leaders’ Summit on Climate” hosted by the United States on April 22, 2021 (https://www.state.gov/leaders-summit-on-climate/ ) and the Exponential Climate Action Summit on “Financing the Race to Zero” (https://www.wedonthavetime.org/events/financing-the-race-to-zero ).
İstanbul Enerji celebrates World Environment Day, April 22.
