Another important step has been taken in line with Istanbul’s environmental sustainability goals. The district’s first Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan (SECAP), prepared in collaboration with Çatalca Municipality, was introduced to the public at a widely attended meeting.
The meeting was attended by our General Manager Dr. Yüksel Yalçın, Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel, deputy mayors, technical teams, neighborhood headmen, representatives of civil society organizations, and district administrators. With strong stakeholder interest, the meeting provided a detailed presentation of SECAP’s content, implementation strategies, and goals to the public.
“A Model Plan for a Carbon-Neutral Future”
In his speech, our General Manager Dr. Yüksel Yalçın emphasized that Çatalca makes a meaningful contribution to Istanbul’s sustainability vision with this comprehensive plan. Yalçın stated, “This SECAP, prepared for a district like Çatalca with high environmental and agricultural potential, serves as a roadmap that sets an example for a carbon-neutral future. As Istanbul Energy, we will continue to provide technical and strategic support at every stage of this process.”
“Beautiful City Çatalca” Vision Comes to Life
Çatalca Mayor Erhan Güzel, in his speech, recalled his statement made on November 21, 2024, in the same hall: “This date is a milestone for Çatalca; nothing will ever be the same again,” and noted that this promise is now becoming a reality. Mayor Güzel emphasized that Çatalca is now moving forward with a management approach supported by scientific data, compliant with regulations, and responsive to contemporary needs.
What Does the Plan Bring?
According to the prepared SECAP, the main steps to be implemented in Çatalca include:
• Designing new buildings to be suitable for solar energy, • Standardizing rainwater harvesting and greywater usage, • Ensuring energy efficiency in public buildings, • Expanding bicycle paths and electric vehicle infrastructure, • Establishing infrastructure systems resilient to natural disasters, • Supporting climate-friendly agricultural practices, • Adopting transparent auditing mechanisms and environmentally friendly urban planning processes.
We are striving to implement energy investments and programs in line with sustainable, technological, and clean energy policies, primarily with the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, as well as the public and private sectors.
