Büyükçekmece Lake Floating Solar Power Plant with installed power of 240 kWe entered into service in April 2017 with the cooperation of İSKİ and İstanbul Enerji A.Ş. The total installation area of the plant is approximately 2.900 m2 and the part of the plant with 30 kWe power was installed on land for the purpose of comparing the efficiency of the FSPP system and the remaining 210 kW was installed on the lake. Büyükçekmece Lake FSPP is the first grid-tie practice in Turkey. The system installed as an R&D project plays an important role in prevention of loss of water since it covers 60% of the water surface on the basis of the area where it is located. Totally 960 polycrystal photovoltaic panels with 260 kWp power is available in the plant. Two different floating systems one consisting of HDPE barge (120 kW) and the other consisting of the combination of HDPE barge and steel construction (90 kW) have been used in the Floating Solar Power Plant.

The Floating Solar Power Plant has a power that could respond the electricity requirement of 202 households and prevents 164 tons of CO2 emission annually. This provides environmental benefit equivalent to withdrawal of 135 vehicles from the traffic and planting 4.200 trees.
