Silivri Seymen Biomass Power Generation Plant is located in the province of Istanbul, county of Silivri, in Seymen Solid Waste Storage and Disposal plant where the household wastes of European Side are stored. The purpose of foundation of the power generation plant provides at first stage burning the garbage gas produced during the storage of the wastes and provision of power generation and at the same time prevents emission of methane gas contained in the garbage gas, having much more greenhouse effect than carbon dioxide to the nature.

The plant is located in an installed are of approximately 60 thousand square meters and the construction works were started in June 2018. The work was performed together with many contractors in the process of construction of the plant where different expertise fields are available. Within this scope, the plant consists of electrical, mechanical, automation-scada sections together with infrastructure and superstructure productions in industrial terms and there are different pre-systems where gas conditioning and storage is performed before provision of electricity generation through gas engines. The plant consists of administrative, control, production, workshop, and switch gear of 154 kV, command and security buildings. The total indoor area is approximately 13 thousand m² and infrastructure production of 17 thousand m is available.

Its partial acceptance was made by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Republic of Turkey on 04.09.2020 after the commissioning works. This partial acceptance was made at first stage as approximately 17 MW using 12 gas engines. After this partial acceptance made electricity sale was started via the energy market.

The capacity of the plant decreased up to 25 MW in December 2021, to 37 MW as of October 2021 and the plant provides environmental benefit equivalent to the annual electricity requirement of approximately 190 thousand households (760 thousand persons), methane gas emission corresponding to carbon reduction of 37 thousand trees, 1,45 million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) greenhouse effect and elimination of the carbon emission created by 940 thousand vehicles, with this installed power.

When the plant reaches full capacity, it shall be the biggest biomass power generation plant of the world installed at a single point with its installed power 90 MW. The transactions carried on together with Gold Standard with respect to approval of the carbon emission reduction amount by an independent institution continue.
